Patience Grasshopper

Mouse over to see before, mouse out to see after

I waited almost a year before processing this photo because I knew it was going to take a lot of a labor doing healing on the skin. This was a good shot of a great kid and I wanted to do a good job, but I knew I needed to be in the right frame of mind to be patient enough to get the results needed to do this photo justice. What you see above when you hover over the image is what I started with and when you mouse out you see what I ended up with. While it may not be true to life, it is what we as photographers do – we make make people look their best.

This image was shot with a Canon 5D Mark II and a 100mm f/2.8 Macro lens for 1/125 sec at f/2.8, ISO 400 using two off-camera 580 EX II flashes controlled by a ST-E2. I used Dfine to clean up the noise, Viveza to clean up the ring around the collar, Color Efex to soften the skin after I manually healed the acne, and Sharpener Pro to make it ready for display. I used Lightroom 3’s vignette feature to direct the focus to the center of the frame.
